Strategic sourcing includes outsourcing, offshoring and shared services.  Few organisations in the world, large or small, have not adopted these approaches to optimising their organisations over the past 30 years.  Strategic sourcing has become pivotal to the success of organisations and understanding it is a crucial part of the modern-day manager’s education.

The course defines strategic sourcing and briefly explores its long history.  It will help learners to recognise strategic sourcing in all its forms within their own organisation and to appreciate its value to organisations.

The course looks at the main approaches to strategic sourcing.  It also looks at why organisations outsource and why they often choose not to outsource.

There is a downloadable Study Guide containing post course test questions to check the learner has picked up key information.  The Study Guide also contains a set of work-based learning questions that support the transfer of learning from the module into the workplace and enable further development.

Who should complete the course?

Primary: Supplier relationship managers; procurement managers; contract and commercial managers, client account managers

Secondary: Operational managers; HR, IT, Legal and other specialists who are involved with strategic sourcing arrangements; anyone who needs a broad overview of strategic sourcing.
